Prospects of Singapore capital market in IPO brighten but no quick fix in sight

Singapore's move to launch a new fund to support startups will help companies seek IPOs. According to AAM, it could take years before the Singapore Exchange (SGXL.SI) can become a technology listing hub in the region. Despite being positioned as one of Asia's leading financial centers, the Singapore capital market has seen a decline in listings over the past decade and has failed to attract a large number of public offerings following initial declaration.

However, market participants say that the establishment of two funds with a capital of S$2 billion ($1.5 billion) to raise late-stage funds and IPOs of companies, along with the blank check companies are allowed to list in the city-state, which will attract more startups to list there.

As of now, AAM says only three companies have listed on the Singapore Exchange (SGX), raising $239 million, according to data from Refinitiv. The amount raised is less than half of the same period last year and is the lowest in six years. For comparison, the amount raised on the Malaysian stock market stood at $531 million, the Indonesian and Philippine exchanges attracted $2.3 billion, while the Thai market reached the highest level is 3.5 billion dollars.
